Costumes & Couture made in Vienna

Hi, I’m Victoria Markl

MASTER TAILORESS & HISTORICAL FASHION EXPERT

My love for costumes and (historical) fashion started very early on in my life but I only discovered my passion for sewing and creating with textiles a little over ten years ago.
Growing up and living in Vienna made sure that I was always surrounded by theatres and history and as a child I loved watching costume movies from the 1950s. The glitz and glam of those movies was truly fascinating and I always wondered how someone was able to create those beautiful dresses.

My sewing journey started as a teenager when I bought a cheap sewing machine, a very crappy sewing pattern and fabric which was really not meant to become a historical dress. But somehow it worked out and that was the start of all of this.

After my A-Levels I attended a fashion school and in late 2020 I took my exam to get my Master Craftman’s Certificate (Meistertitel).

Now at the end of 2025, after working for a few years in a completely different field of work I decided it was finally time to pursue what I do best: Working with fabrics, creating patterns and researching historical fashion.

People don’t want to see clothes, they want to see something that fuels the imagination.

Alexander McQueen

My main area of expertise lies in european fashion in the 18th, 19th and 20th century. I also dipped my toes into theatre work at Nationaltheater Mannheim (Germany) and also had an internship and later freelanced at Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien (Austria).
I also work as a fashion history consultant for various private individuals and companies.
